Float tanks are used by a wide range of athletes worldwide.  The  Australian Institute for Sport (A.I.S.) Sports Psychology department have been utilising and recommending the use of float tanks by A.I.S. ‘national’ and training camp athletes for over 30 years. The NFL's Philadelphia Eagles have used float tanks for their athletes with documented success. Olympic bodies from Australia to Sweden to the UK have utilized the positive benefits of floatation for their athletes. Many UFC fighters including Tom Watson and Nick Gullo use float tanks for preparation and recovery.  Numerous elite athletes all over the world have tanks at their homes for regular use including Wayne Rooney of Manchester United.

There are several core reasons why floating can you improve your sports performance:

  • Accelerates recovery from injury
  • Increases energy (ATP)
  • Helps reduce pain and inflammation
  • Ideal space for visualisation
  • Boosts the immune system
  • Reduces Lactic acid levels in the body
  • Assists in facilitated rest, improving athletes exposure to fatigue
  • Improves concentration/focus
  • Improves oxygen circulation
  • Floating reduces muscle tension

In the tank, gravity isn’t a factor. The complete relaxation that it provides, gives all the muscles the much-needed break they need. The benefits are truly impressive. When the athlete is in the tank, each muscle in the body gets the rest it needs and the time to recover. Though you may feel that lying in bed or on the couch has the exact same effect, the fact is that gravity is always at work and this adds stress to numerous areas of the body.

Furthermore Epsom salts are a magnesium and sulfate – a muscle relaxant and a protein builder for your joints. Not only can you truly decompress in the float tank, you absorb the minerals whilst you float directly into your muscles, allowing you to be noticeably less tense both physically, mentally and emotionally.
